ACCESS
A 5 hour drive on good roads from Johannesburg to the Newington Gate of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Federal Air operates daily flights from OR Tambo (ORT) to Ulusaba airstrip, followed by an easy game drive to the lodge. SA Airlink offers daily flights from ORT to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, followed by either a road or air transfer to the lodge.
GUEST ACCOMMODATATION
River Lodge is tucked away in a quiet corner of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve’s western sector, right on the edge of the Sand River. It consists of eight luxury suites with dramatic close up views of the River. Each air conditioned suite features generous spaces, elegant ensuite bathrooms with twin hand basins, separate w.c., bath, indoor and outdoor showers. Private plunge pools are surrounded by spacious decks that overlook the river.
GUEST AREAS
River Lodge’s magnificently positioned guest sitting and dining areas overlook the Sand River, and are filled with deep sofas perfect for whiling away the hours between game drives. A giant sausage tree provides shade for long, lazy afternoon lunches. Delicious Pan African meals are shared in the open air boma or at romantic candlelit bush dinners. The Lodge has a Safari Shop.
SAFARIS
View Africa’s most impressive wildlife on morning and afternoon/evening game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles with expert guides and Shangaan trackers. Guests can also enjoy interpretive guided bush walks with excellent birdwatching.
Weather:
Summer months are hot and humid (Nov to Mar). Temperatures start to cool slightly (Apr), and winter months are warm with cold nights/dawns (May to Jun). July to September is very dry with cold night and early morning/late afternoon temperatures. Spring is very dry with hot, dry winds (Sept to Oct).
Rainfall: The first rains start towards the end of October. Rains or typical afternoon thundershowers (Nov and Mar), with potential scattered afternoon thundershowers (Apr).

Children:
Children are welcome, although triple rooms are not possible. Regretfully, children 5 years and younger cannot participate in game drives. Childminders are available at an additional cost. Children aged 6 to 11 years can only participate in game drives at the lodge manager’s discretion.
